Barbera: “Winning the Open Championship at home is great"
The Open Championship went to the last race of the year, Hector Barbera claiming the title with an Open class victory.
Hector Barbera has been one of
the main protagonists of the Open Championship throughout the 2015
season. The Avintia Racing rider had a best finish on ninth in the
Japanese GP, helping him to close the gap to Loris Baz (Forward Racing)
after the Frenchman secured fourth in Misano. Having fought with Baz all
year, 16th in the Gran Premio Motul de la Comunitat Valenciana granted
Barbera the Open title after a long year. As the rules in the MotoGP™
World Championship change for 2016, this will be the last Open class
title on offer. For 2016 Barbera will remain with Avintia Racing and on Ducati machinery but with updated equipment. Barbera, Avintia and Ducati are all eager to continue making progress next year and with rule changes bringing electronics to a more even level, they are hopeful of challenging towards the front once more. Former rival Baz will join Barbera at Avintia
Hector Barbera: “I’m super happy because winning the race and the Open Championship at home is great. Throughout the weekend I had fun riding and the fans were incredible. I want to thank the team because they gave the maximum all season to achieve out goals, of course all the sponsors and everyone helped a lot. We finished the year in the best way possible, winning the Open race. In the last few races we’ve all given 200% and I think you cannot ask for more than what we have done. Now we celebrate in style and on Tuesday start thinking about 2016, a year with many changes that I hope will be good and we can fight once more. Thank you!”
