Kent: “I’ll sleep well this night”
The opening day of the Gran Premio Motul de la Comunitat Valenciana bodes well for Danny Kent’s title challenge.
Throughout the three flyaway
races a variety of issues saw Leopard Racing’s Danny Kent unable to
clinch the Moto3™ World Championship title, rival Miguel Oliveira (Red
Bull KTM Ajo) produced six incredible races. But in Valencia the tables
seem to have turned once more as Kent has again found his form from
early in the season, leading the opening day of practice by 0.036s. As
Kent topped the times Oliveira was down in seventh. What is perhaps even
more comforting to Kent is the fact that in the top five there was only
a single KTM, little chance of team orders interfering in his race if
times remain the same. Both of Kent’s Leopard Racing teammates joined
him inside the top four and could potentially help him to the title if
the situation on Sunday becomes dire.Perhaps the most impressive part of Kent’s opening day was the fact he was one of just two riders under the 1’40 barrier. During the afternoon session Kent and his team experimented with different setup options, none of which were helpful. The Brit is now filled with confidence once more after several difficult rounds and is ready to claim his first World Championship, and Britain’s first since the late Barry Sheene.
Danny Kent: “Of course I’ll sleep well this night as we finished day one as the fastest rider but we need do to some work for tomorrow in order to improve and to solve some problems with which we struggled a bit today. However, we’re happy with today and how things went so far but we just need to look at the data and see where we can make the next step. This afternoon we tried something with which we went in the wrong direction so we just need to keep working hard and trying to improve the setting for tomorrow. But so far I’m quite confident to be on the right way already.”
